Australia made a solid statement on Day 1, with debutant Sam Konstas leading the charge. His fearless approach at the top of the order set the tone for the day, taking on India’s best bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, and coming out on top. Konstas’ aggressive knock helped Australia to their first 50+ opening partnership of the series, shielding the middle order from the new ball.

The solid foundation laid by Konstas allowed the experienced trio of Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, and Steve Smith to capitalize. All three brought up fifties, building on the platform provided by the debutant. India fought back in the final session, claiming 3 wickets for just 9 runs, but another crucial 50+ stand between Smith and Alex Carey brought Australia close to a competitive total of 300.

Despite Akash Deep’s persistent effort, which saw him dismiss Carey with the second new ball, Pat Cummins guided Australia through to stumps. The pitch proved to be tricky, offering enough help for pacers while also making it difficult for edges to carry. As India prepares to take the field on Day 2, they will be hoping to clean up the remaining four wickets quickly to avoid Australia posting a massive first-innings score.

Day 2 promises to be just as exciting as the first, and we will be back with all the action. Until then, goodbye and stay safe!
