Airport security detained him during a routine inspection when his suspicious behavior raised red flags. Further investigation revealed that Barua was traveling on an Indian passport (X 7037848) and was found to be in possession of fake documents. Authorities confirmed that he had been residing without a valid passport or visa, prompting a look-out circular that had previously been issued against him.
Ashish Bharti, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Gaya, stated, “A Bangladeshi national was living in Bihar’s Gaya district for eight years without a visa or passport. He was trying to escape to Thailand from Gaya International Airport. The documents recovered from him are fake. He has been arrested from Gaya Airport.”
Upon his arrest, authorities confiscated multiple passports bearing different names, along with a range of identity documents including an Aadhaar card and a PAN card. Additionally, a considerable amount of foreign currency was recovered from him, including 1,560 Thai Baht, 5 Euros, 411 US dollars, and ₹3,800 in Indian currency.
Barua has been charged under sections 318(4), 336(3), and 340(2) of the Bhartiya Nyay Sahita (BNS) and the Indian Passport Act 12 at the Magadh Medical Police Station, where a thorough investigation is currently underway.
The case highlights ongoing concerns regarding illegal immigration and the misuse of identity documents in India. Authorities continue to work on unraveling the extent of Barua’s operations and any potential networks involved.
