Indian star batsman KL Rahul gave a hilarious reply when asked about his batting position ahead of the India vs. Australia Test series. Addressing the media on Wednesday, Rahul stated that he has mentally overcome the challenge of being a “floater” in the batting lineup. The cricketer emphasized his readiness to bat at any position as long as he is part of the playing XI.

Rahul impressed critics during the first Test against Australia in Perth, scoring 26 and 77 in two innings. His partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal in the second innings showcased remarkable patience, playing a crucial role in India’s victory. In Rohit Sharma’s absence, Rahul opened the innings, displaying maturity and adaptability.

However, with Rohit’s return, when asked about his future batting order, Rahul delivered a cheeky reply that left the room in splits:
“I’ve been informed about it, but I’ve also been told not to share it with you.”

He later clarified,
“I am ready to bat anywhere. My main focus is to be in the playing XI, which means I need to be prepared to contribute from any position. Once you walk onto the field, you’re playing for the team, not for yourself.”

Mental Adjustments and Challenges

Rahul shared insights into his journey of adapting to various batting positions in the team. Initially, he debuted in Australia as a middle-order batsman but was later asked to open the innings. Frequent changes in his batting order across Test and ODI formats significantly impacted him mentally.

“I’ve batted in many positions. Initially, it was challenging, not just technically but also mentally. Changing batting orders made me think differently about how to approach the first 20-25 balls—how quickly to attack or how cautious to be,” he explained.

Rahul’s Approach to Adaptability

Having scored centuries in South Africa, Australia, and England, Rahul spoke about simplifying his approach.
“Now that I’ve batted in almost every position in both Tests and ODIs, I’ve figured out how to pace my innings. I’ve made my process very simple—whether I’m batting in the top order or the middle order, I focus on surviving the first 30-40 balls. Once I do that, everything feels like normal batting,” he said.

Rahul’s readiness and maturity highlight his value as a versatile asset in the Indian lineup.
