Strategic Location and Shipyard Capabilities
L&T’s Kattupalli Shipyard, located about 45 kilometers north of Chennai, is one of the country’s most advanced shipbuilding and repair facilities. This yard not only constructs vessels for the Indian Navy but is also engaged in a Public-Private Partnership model to build three Cadet Training Ships and six other defence vessels. Additionally, it has a Master Ship Repair Agreement with the US Navy and has been involved in repairing the US Naval Ship Charles Drew.
The launch of INS Samarthak marks another milestone in India’s journey towards maritime self-sufficiency, with L&T playing a critical role in driving innovation in defence technology.
