On November 30, a shocking incident unfolded in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, where a woman police constable was physically assaulted on a public road. The incident occurred in broad daylight, highlighting not only the alarming safety concerns but also the apathy of bystanders. A CCTV footage that later went viral on social media has captured the horrific attack, sparking outrage and raising questions about public safety and law enforcement’s effectiveness.
The incident took place around 3 PM when the woman constable, dressed in civil clothes, was walking to her landlord’s house in her neighborhood. As she was walking, a man on a bike approached her. He reportedly began misbehaving with her, demanding that she start his stalled bike. The altercation quickly escalated when the man dismounted from his bike and attempted to confront the constable. In an attempt to defend herself, the constable pushed the man away. In response, the man slapped her and dragged her towards a nearby drain. He then attempted to strangle her, all while bystanders gathered around, doing nothing to intervene.
In Moradabad, a Hindu woman who is in UP police was brutally harassed, assaulted, and beaten by a Muslim boy named Irfan.

Despite the escalating violence, only a few individuals attempted to step in. A senior citizen tried to assist the constable, and a few others attempted to take the assailant away from the scene. However, one of the assailants, wearing a white shirt, approached the constable and stopped her from taking a photo of his bike’s number plate. The disturbing part of the incident was that there were 15-20 people present at the scene, but none of them took any action to help the woman. Instead, they chose to stand by as spectators.
The situation worsened when another member of the group arrived and attempted to take the bike. When it failed to start, they left it behind and fled the scene.
In a statement made to the media, the woman constable shared that during the assault, she was kicked in the stomach, leading to bleeding. One of the attackers’ sisters also joined in, hurling abuse at her. She was later informed that the men were planning to return and harm her further, but upon discovering that she was a police officer, the attackers fled.
Following the incident, the constable filed a complaint, and an FIR was registered against the attackers at the Civil Lines Police Station. The accused are identified as Irfan, Saleem, Naim, Naim’s sister, and six unidentified individuals. They have been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including assault and attempted murder.
The local police, led by SP Ranvijay Singh, have stated that the investigation is ongoing and efforts are being made to apprehend the assailants. Medical examinations have been conducted, and further legal actions are underway. However, as of now, no arrests have been made.
This incident, captured by CCTV and shared widely on social media, brings attention to the increasing safety concerns faced by women in India, even those who serve as law enforcement officers. It also highlights a disturbing trend where onlookers choose to watch rather than intervene during violent situations. The question remains: if even a police constable can be subjected to such an attack in broad daylight, how safe are ordinary citizens on the streets?
In this case, the constable’s bravery and determination to fight back have been commendable. However, it raises important questions about public safety, the role of witnesses in such incidents, and the need for stronger measures to ensure the safety of women in the country.
