In Uttar Pradesh, students are growing increasingly frustrated over the PCS (Provincial Civil Services) and RO-ARO (Review Officer and Assistant Review Officer) exams. Hundreds of students in Prayagraj have united under the slogan, “Na Batenge, Na Hatenge” (“We Won’t Split, We Won’t Quit”) in protest. This movement is mainly directed against the normalization process and the decision to hold the exams over two days. Students are demanding that exams be held in a single shift to ensure fairness for all candidates.
On November 5, the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) decided to conduct the PCS Prelims 2024 on December 7 and 8, while the RO-ARO Prelims 2023 are set for December 22 and 23, spread across two shifts. The commission also introduced a normalization rule to account for any variance in difficulty between the question papers of different days. However, students argue that this method is unscientific and raises concerns over fairness.

In Prayagraj, thousands of students are on the streets chanting “Na Batenge, Na Hatenge,” demanding that the UPPSC reconsider its decision. They have organized a sit-in outside the Public Service Commission office, making it clear that they will continue their protest until the decision is reversed. The movement has gained momentum, drawing support from various student groups and exam candidates across the state.
The protesting students emphasize that their movement is entirely independent and not linked to any political party. This is a purely student-led protest focused on achieving a fair examination process.
