Victims’ Background
- Nitin: Worked as an Ola driver.
- Amit: Owned a security agency in Gurgaon.
- Ajit (alias Vivek): Worked as an operations executive at Amit’s agency.
Ajit and Nitin were cousins, while Amit was a family friend. They were on their way to attend a family wedding.
Family and Eyewitness Statements
Ajit and Nitin’s relatives expressed their grief and frustration at the administration’s negligence. “This tragedy could have been avoided if proper warning signs or barricades were installed,” said one relative.
Another family member stated, “The under-construction bridge has been in this condition for over a year. It is an outright failure of the Public Works Department (PWD). We demand strict action against the responsible officials.”
Administrative Oversight
Reports indicate that the bridge had been left under construction for over a year. A temporary wall had been constructed earlier but had collapsed. Since then, no efforts were made to warn commuters about the hazard.
Local authorities, while expressing condolences, assured a thorough investigation into the incident.
Lessons for Travelers
While GPS technology has revolutionized navigation, it also highlights the need for cautious use. Blind reliance on GPS directions can lead to dangerous situations, as seen in this tragic incident.
Call for Accountability
This incident underscores the urgent need for better infrastructure management and stricter administrative oversight. Families of the victims have called for immediate action against those responsible to ensure such tragedies are not repeated.
