The footage shows Sinwar, along with his wife and children, moving essential belongings such as water, pillows, mattresses, and a television set into the tunnels. Israeli Army spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari stated that the tunnel complex was located directly beneath the Sinwar family home.

During a press conference where the footage was presented, Rear Adm. Hagari emphasized, “Even on the eve before the brutal massacre, Sinwar was busy with his survival and the survival of his family.” He detailed how, just hours before the attack, Sinwar and his family were seen transporting supplies into the underground shelter, highlighting a focus on their own safety rather than the unfolding violence.
Hagari described the underground compound as well-equipped, containing toilets, showers, a kitchen, beds, and a considerable amount of cash and documents, suggesting that it was designed for a prolonged stay. He noted that the IDF had discovered this extensive tunnel system in February, shortly before Sinwar fled.
“Killing Sinwar is the result of a year of operational and intelligence efforts to bring him and other Hamas leaders to justice. Sinwar has been eliminated, but our mission is not over.”

In contrast, Hamas has portrayed Sinwar’s death as heroic, asserting that he was engaged in battle when he was killed. They dismissed the IDF’s claims as “blatant lies.” Drone footage released earlier this week captured Sinwar critically injured, where he was seen throwing an object at the drone just before his demise. An autopsy later confirmed that he succumbed to a gunshot wound to the head.
As the conflict continues to escalate, these developments provide a stark insight into the actions of key figures involved, further complicating the narrative surrounding the October 7 attack.
