Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Donald Trump on his recent presidential election victory via X (formerly Twitter), despite the platform being banned in Pakistan.
In his message on X, PM Sharif expressed his desire to work closely with the incoming administration to strengthen Pakistan-US relations. A community note soon appeared, with some users speculating that PM Sharif might have used a VPN to access the banned platform, though this claim remains unverified.

Earlier this year, Pakistan banned X, citing concerns over its misuse. The platform was suspended in February following allegations from former Rawalpindi commissioner Liaquat Chattha, who accused top officials of election rigging.
The congratulatory post stirred online debate, with one user commenting, “If hypocrisy had a human face, it would be Shehbaz Sharif.” Another user, tagging Elon Musk, remarked on the irony of the situation, noting that X is banned in Pakistan.
