A myna bird in New Zealand has become an internet sensation after it made a surprise appearance on a highway camera. The video, shared by the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) on Facebook, quickly captured attention online and brought smiles to viewers. In the short 11-second clip, the black and yellow myna lands in front of a traffic camera near Auckland, squawking and giving the camera an intense stare before flying off—only to return moments later for another look.
Adding a humorous twist, the NZTA posted the video with a playful caption: “Wishing a great week ahead to everyone except this bird brain that needs to myna its own business.” They also pointed out that mynas are known pests in New Zealand, often aggressive to native birds, destroying nests, and invading other birds’ territories. “So this definitely wasn’t a welcome cameo on our cameras,” the agency joked.
The bird’s brief appearance blocked the camera view temporarily, but the NZTA reassured viewers that normal road monitoring resumed shortly after. The post sparked a range of humorous reactions from social media users:
- One user joked, “Train a bird to cover all cameras to get away with road offenses.”
- Another quipped, “Protesting about new speed cameras, I guess?”
- “You wanted a bird’s eye view, you got it,” added a commenter, while someone else noted, “He just wanted 16 mins of fame and to talk to us.”
The comments kept rolling in, with users playfully imagining the bird’s motives and admiring its bold behavior.
